Being that this album contains Rebecca's solo guitar work, I thought a more nature-oriented piece of art would be most appropriate. Since first discovering the paintings of Arthur Matthews during childhood visits to the Oakland Museum of California, I have loved those scenes of artistic ladies in flowing, Grecian dresses, frolicking or creating dance, music, and art, upon a background of California coastal scenery.
I leafed through the several books I have containing works by Arthur and Lucia Matthews, and--studying several paintings in particular, but copying none of them--I came up with this sort of Big Sur area background scene. At one point, Rebecca and I were discussing possible poses for her, and she grabbed Amy (her favorite acoustic guitar), stood up, and struck the pose that you see in the painting. I ran and got a pale blue sheet that was handy, draped her in it, and took a few photos. For the painting, the drapes and folds of the sheet translated very well into a white dress and red mantle. The font is a derivative of something that appeared on a book cover, during the time the Matthews' were at their creative peak.
